Job 35:10 (Elihu, the possibly somewhat accurate friend) - “But none says, ‘Where is God my Maker?’”

He is our Maker.

Genesis 2:7 - the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

This word “formed” is a Hebrew word used in pottery so it makes sense God made us from dust. Clay is dirt, too.

From this, we get the potter/clay talk:

Isaiah 45:9 - “Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?

Formed. Same Hebrew word.

We sit back too often uninterested in our Maker. Too bored, too tired, too apathetic, too patterned in bad practices, too addicted to other things.

To some degree or another we’re guilty.

God says:

1 Samuel 2:30 - “he who honors me, I will honor”

By age, we’ll never again be younger than today:

Ecclesiastes 12:1 - Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth

May we show Elihu isn’t fully right. May we keep asking, “Where is God my Maker?” so we can be near him!

God’s nearness isn’t one time. It’s not part-time.

Exodus 20:12 - Honor your father and your mother

We don’t outgrow this command in adulthood. And we don’t outgrow needing God’s nearness.

Where is God my Maker? The one who designed us to be formed to completion and shepherded by him?

He doesn’t have all of me - the love of all my heart. May not even have it partially or nominally. But may we someday be able to sing with this song: “You have my heart completely.”
