Exodus 31:1 (NIV) - When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”

Just like children, we have a hard time waiting.

Moses was gone for a matter of days before the people decided he wasn’t coming back and they needed another god.

And so Jesus told us to expect his return would be some time:

Matthew 25:14, - “For [the coming of the kingdom of heaven] will be like a man going on a journey… Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

As the Israelites didn’t like waiting for Moses, so we don’t like waiting for Jesus. And we have a much longer wait.

And as the Israelites compelled Aaron to make the golden calf and worship another “god,” so we devote ourselves to other gods in our impatience.

Oh, may we listen to David and be patient as God arranges the universe for the return of Jesus:

Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord;     be strong, and let your heart take courage;     wait for the Lord!

May we worship him - him alone!
