Genesis 1:3 - And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

When little kids go to sleep, they often want some kind of night light to be left on. The pitch black dark is too scary.

Would you let a little light in? My heart is in a panic Don’t leave me in the darkness. (Jon Guerra - Let a Little Light In)

We can live this life used to the dark. Our sin increases and clouds gradually press in around us. Our thinking becomes futile. Our foolish hearts are darkened. (Romans 1:21)

But there come moments where Jesus passes near and, like the blind man, we have a chance to shout:

Luke 18:38,41 - “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! …Lord, let me recover my sight.”

Let a little light in.

How does Jesus end up in the one place this blind man is? Is it coincidence? Are the physically and spiritually blind everywhere? Maybe. Or:

Luke 15:4 - “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?”

And what does a search party use when looking for the lost?

So often, a light.

John 8:12 - Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

We follow him and have good around us. And where do we follow Jesus to but back home to the Father himself and into his kingdom?

Psalm 23:6 - Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

May he open our eyes so we may see more light. May we follow him. May he expose everything dark in us - all the shadowy places. May hearts panic no more in the nearness of God. May he have this mercy on us and may we dwell with him forever!
