Matthew 14:17 - They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.”

So many of us spend significant time lamenting how little we have, trying to get more, or soothing ourselves for our lack. We stay stuck in the physical.

Jesus says to us, “Just bring me what little you have.”

Matthew 17:20 - if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.

He fed 5,000 with five loaves and two fish. Faith as tiny as a mustard seed can change spiritual realities that seem absolutely immovable.

Over and over in the Old Testament, God found fault with the people not because they failed to do great things but because they lacked faith in him:

Psalm 78:21b-22 - his anger rose against Israel, because they did not believe in God and did not trust his saving power.

Faith is the main currency of God - which must be why the water God offers is free:

Revelation 21:6b - To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.

We can lament having so little faith but the five loaves and two fish teach us a little faith is all we need:

It ain’t much
But you don’t need much, anyway
