Genesis 12:1 - Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.”

Throughout Genesis 12, God speaks to Abram in four verses. And nine times, God says to him, “I will…”

  • v1 - I will show you land
  • v2 - I will make you a great nation
  • v2 - I will bless you
  • v2 - I will make your name great
  • v2 - I will make you a blessing (to others)
  • v3 - I will bless those who bless you
  • v3 - I will curse those who dishonor you
  • v3 - I will bless all families of the earth through you
  • v7 - To your offspring, I will give the land of Canaan you see now

God says, “I will.” He does the work.

We’re like little kids and have no sense of what’s happening in life or what we’re doing or where we’re going. Our hearts experience unsurety about life every day.

How do kids act with their parents, particularly when they’re unsure? How often do they reach their hands out for help?

To the believing, God is our father this exact way:

Isaiah 42:6 - “I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you”

God does it. He takes us by the hand.

Lord, may we feel our unsureness. And may our hands stretch out to know you more! Fill our desire! Continue this work, Lord!

Acts 17:26-27 (NIV) - From one man [Abraham] he [God] made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.
